Community members hungry for justice

Six community members started a hunger strike Tuesday to call attention to the state budget crisis and the suffering that will result from deep budget cuts. The group - Hungry for Justice - is calling for a fair increase in the income tax to raise much needed revenue and prevent devastating cuts to human services.

Seniors rally in Chicago to stop home care cuts

Nearly 100 seniors from the Jane Addams Senior Caucus rallied to protest proposed cuts to the state’s Community Care Program today - a program that allows 51,000 seniors to receive needed care while staying in their homes. From the Chi-Town Daily News’ Alex Parker:

With Gov. Pat Quinn threatening to cut millions from agencies and services across Illinois, area seniors are worried that at-home care will be slashed beyond repair.

Campaign keeps pressure on state lawmakers

Over 150 health care workers, child care providers, community advocates and their allies called on state lawmakers to stop devastating human services budget cuts on Thursday. Seventy community activists and Campaign members visited the in-district office of State Representative Karen Yarborough to deliver the message while close to 100 held a prayer vigil in the State Capitol.

Doomsday budget puts Illinois families in serious danger

The Campaign for Illinois’ Future announced its strong opposition to the doomsday budget proposal announced by Governor Quinn today, calling the 37 percent across-the-board cuts catastrophic and urging lawmakers to take action to prevent devastation for hundreds of thousands of Illinois families by passing a fair income tax increase.

Chicago seniors join the fight for a fair budget

Facing serious threats to the home care they depend on, a group of Chicago-area seniors from the Jane Addams Senior Caucus joined other seniors, people with disabilities, health care workers, child care providers and community advocates from the Campaign for Illinois’ Future in Springfield yesterday to lobby their legislators for a fair budget.

SEIU Healthcare Illinois launches ad campaign to stop cuts
